handling problems.
*Tea or Coffee?
- Very heavy bags of coffee beans, up to 75kg each, need to be loaded into
a hopper/bucket elevator feeding a new blending plant. For improved handling
efficiency and safety reasons an inclined mobile powered
belt conveyor has now been installed. The conveyor carries the heavy
bags up to approx. 1,500 mm height onto a short length of gravity
roller conveyor. One roller has been removed to provide space for the
operator to cut the bags to release the beans into the feed hopper below.
- Both conveyors are readily movable to allow easy access to the hopper/elevator
when needed. Please refer to the pictures of the installed unit.

*The Conveyor Application Details:
- We designed and supplied the
powered belt conveyor, approx. 3 m long fitted with a 600 mm wide grip-face
belt. This unit is mounted on a mobile base fitted with castors. The gravity
roller conveyor is 1,000 mm long x 750 mm wide with 50 mm diameter rollers
set at 75 mm pitch, except for the cutting gap at 100 mm. The rear supports
for the roller conveyor were designed to go around the hopper and have castors
fitted to facilitate removal..
- Controls for the system allow the belt conveyor to run and stop for unloading
using a foot-operated switch. The unit was supplied with armoured cable
and connector for immediate plug-in operation. The drive is via a 0.375
kW right angled geared motor. Controls are mounted in a control cubicle
fitted within the mobile base framework.
- Our customer is extremely pleased with the operation of the new conveyor
and it achieves all that he was looking for.
